It's there to allow air in but no nasty fumes out so the tank builds pressure and can force gas out thru/around the cap. It's also the reason many bikes "whistle" when they sit after being ridden. WebDec 2, 2024 · The rubber gasket is very hard and not flexible. There is about a 1/8" groove between the edge of the gasket and the edge of the cap. There appears to be a hollow space between the inner part of the cap and the outer part. I'm pretty sure the cap is not solid metal, it's not heavy enough to be.
