Studies performed in the preantibiotic era permit a relatively complete understanding of the natural history of untreated syphilis. WebWhile syphilis occurs in both men and women, infections in women of reproductive age have flow-on effects, including a higher risk of congenital syphilis, and pregnancy and birth complications.
